Four leadership training programs receive funding to elevate California’s existing water, wastewater and energy workers

Funding will help advance local, regional and state initiatives

The California Water, Wastewater and Energy Workforce Development Program has awarded funding to four leadership training programs designed to train and elevate California’s existing water, wastewater, and energy workers.

Awardees are the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District’s Advancing Women in Water and Wastewater Leadership Academy; the CA-NV American Water Works Association’s Advanced Water Utility Management Leadership Program (AWUML); the Water Education for Latino Leaders’ Educate to Lead (E2L) initiative; and the Leading with Courage Network’s Next Level Leadership Program.

The leadership training grants support:

professional development for existing workers (career ladder opportunities);
management training for advancement of incumbent (existing) mid-career workers; and/or leadership/executive development for senior management-level professionals.

These competitively selected leadership training grants, which total $500,000, are one of several initiatives under the California Water, Wastewater and Energy Workforce Development Program, which CMUA launched in 2023 in partnership with the California African American Water Education Foundation, Jewish Vocational Service, and Water Education for Latino Leaders. The $4 million program is funded through a grant from the California Workforce Development Board’s High Road Training Partnership Program.
